Pomeranians are particularly hard dogs to breed because of their diminutive size and a small number of puppies born in a litter. Sometimes, occurrence of larger puppies in a litter reminds of the breed's historical past. Each developmental stage introduced a smaller species until the breed's tiny size was officially fixed. Still, even now, large working dogs, the Pomeranian's ancestors let us know about their existence by revealing genes responsible for weight.
Considering the complexity of the Pomeranian's ancestry, one should realize that breeding these dogs is not as easy as it seems. A breeder cannot achieve success without certain skills and knowledge. A responsible breeder knows all the reefs of the breeding business and is capable of avoiding potential problems, and producing sound Pomeranian puppies.
As adult dogs Pomeranians are said to be rather robust. However, as puppies they are prone to a number of diseases, and need much care. It is not enough to only feed them some foods. Pomeranian puppies are very small sensitive creatures that should receive their portion of interaction. It is not advised to isolate them too early. Any puppy is socialized through close relations with its mother and littermates.
Another part of puppy socialization involves exposure to a variety of sounds and situations. It is good when a puppy is introduced to a few persons. However, responsible breeders of Pomeranians are aware of the threats that await newly born puppies while being handled by children.
